Biography

In January of 2005, Io was formed when Tom, Yann and Steve were looking for a keyboard player and a vocalist to complete their musical ideas. They found their answers in Toon and Lio.

The line-up was now as follows: Lio on vocals, Steve on the drumkit and backing vocals, Tom on guitars and additional backing vocals, Toon on keyboards and Yann on bass. The influences of Io were very versatile, going from progressive to trash and from classical to death. These criteria gave Io the chance to be very fresh since they combined contrasting styles in one song.

The first gig was held on the 6th of March 2005 at the (in)famous RockCafé in Leuven, which was packed. After the one hour set, the crowd was overwhelmed and Io received a load of positive reactions. A few gigs followed, some better than the other, but the highlight came on September 3rd, when Io won the Free Stage at Schaffen, which urned them a weekend of recording time.

The second highlight in their existence was on the 31st of October, again in Leuven, but this time at De Blauwe Kater, during Metalloween. An excellent gig with a lot of anticipation from the crowd; the way it should be. Meanwhile, Io was also working on their first demo/mini cd so they could get in contact with the world across the present borders.

Unfortunately, due to internal doubt in the band and personal lack of motivation and time from Lio’s side, he decided to leave the band in March 2006. Since then, Io is looking for a new voice. Because of this, the demo still isn’t finished and gigs have become rare.

However, since Lio’s departure, Io is trying out vocalists and all four remaining members are working on new material, which is more contrasting than ever. Everything endures but change, especially Io, and one day they WILL be back...
